Beyond the politics and the spin, you want to know what is really happening, so you seek out material that is well researched and well written. The stories could well make you want to become active in changing the very situations about which you are reading or enhance the social action activities in which you are involved. You can make a difference when you donate to The Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards Funds, right here and right now. Donate what you can and encourage others to do so as well. Where will your money go? 98.2% of the money you donate, large or small, goes to the awards themselves and there are many ways to donate. The Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards recognize social justice writing that is exceptionally well written and researched by freelance writers. Through their commitment, bravery and published work freelance writers bring to light the information about social justice issues in the world community. Your donation would make a direct difference to these awards and to these writers. Distinctive Focus The unique focus of the Dave Greber Writing Awards is that support is provided to writers when it is most needed - the time between commitment from a publisher and completion, publication and payment for the work. The awards make it possible for writers to write. Helping social justice writers is your way of helping expose social justice problems. As the juried awards have matured and become popular with the writers and those interested in social justice issues, the financial demands on the funds have mounted. Additional funds are needed to expand the amounts of the awards, to provide the opportunity to compete for writers living anywhere in Canada and to ensure long life for the awards. Money for advertising and marketing is needed. The funds have increased in value thanks to the kindness and interest of individual donors and small fundraising events. All but 1.8 per cent of funds raised go to the awards. We are at a very crucial time of growth and change. Social Justice writers make a difference and so can you. Choose to donate now. Donations The money donated to the Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards are deposited with the Jewish Community Foundation of Calgary. Tax receipts can be issued. Two Funds In order to better direct your generous donations, two funds have been established to support the awards. The Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards Fund provide the donor with the opportunity to make a long-term investment in the fund. The Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards Sponsorship Fund conversely, was established solely for the purpose of directing all the funds to the awards in one fiscal year. Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards Fund Donations made to the Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards Fund will directly enable us to increase the Awards in future years and to expand support into additional categories of eligibility. The contributions to this Fund are set-aside in perpetuity to ensure on-going resources and are tax deductible. Legacy gifts such as insurance, publicly traded securities, bequests and cash contributions are held on behalf of the Fund by the Jewish Community Foundation of Calgary. Income from the endowment helps to support the efforts and activities of the Dave Greber Freelance Writers' Awards Fund to better serve the community. Your donation, your community, your awards. Dave Greber Freelance Writers Sponsorship Fund The second fund is the Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards Sponsorship Fund. Donations made to this fund will ensure that all dollars so donated will be used to directly support the cash awards or specific costs attached to marketing and/or fund raising. Donor recognition is possible and the donor can specify how the money is to be spent. Donations to either fund will qualify for a charitable donation income tax receipt. The funds are donor directed giving Shirley Dunn the right to actively promote and develop the funds and the awards. Online Donations The Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards has partnered with CanadaHelps.org to provide supporters of the awards with an easy online way to support writers in the area of social justice. To donate online, simply click the Donate button. How it Works When you click the Donation Button, you will go to an exclusive area on CanadaHelps.org and have the option of pledging your monthly support, making a one-time donation or spending a Charity Gift Card on behalf of the Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards.
